Napoleonic wars

Martin Hutsteiner from Eberhardstreuth was part of a bavarian militia in 1799 and located around Künzing, Osterhofen. His fate is still unknown.

Franz Hutsteiner from Niederwegscheid was soldier in the 8th Line-Infantry-Regiment Herzog Pius until December 1807 when he deserted. His fate after desertion is still unknown.

Franco-Prussian war (1870/1871)

Franz Hutsteiner took part in this war as a soldier in the 11. Infantry Regiment ‘von der Tann’, Battalion 2, Compagnie 5. He got wounded on 09.11.1870 at the battle of Coulmiers, Orleans.

World War I

Anton Hutsteiner from Munich, Bavaria, was killed on 13.6.1918 in Belgium.

Anton Hutsteiner from Hanging, Kollerschlag, was captured by russian army and became POW beginning of 1917.

Alois Hutsteiner from Sierning

Alois Hutsteiner  from Weinzierl, Sierning, (Kirchdorf/Krems, Linz) got wounded mid of 1915 and was killed on 18.5.1916 at the Coston mountain, d`Asiero, Italy, at the south western front and buried on 19.5. in Osteria Fiorentini.




Franz Xaver Hutstein, Ortenburg

Franz Xaver Hutstein from Unterthannet took part in WWI at the western German front from the beginning. He got wounded 11.11.1914 and on 03.08.1916 captured by the French, fortunately ! He was at the killing fields of Verdun and during the battle at Fort Vaux where thousands of soldiers lost their life in vain. He was released after 4 years and came home in 1920.

Franz Hutsteiner was wounded during the first months of WWI and finally was killed in Galicia in 1915.

Johann Jakob Hutstein from Schöfthal, Gangkofen, was captured and became prisoner of war around one week before WWI ended 11.11.1918

Josef Hutsteiner from Rothau was missed bef. 26.7.1916, wounded bef. 25.9.1916 and later on 11.11.1918 prisoner of war in Rotterdam.

Josef Hutsteiner was awarded the silver medal of merit on the ribbon of the military Karl Friedrich merit medal in Baden 1916.

Paul Hutsteiner from Voglarn, Malching/Inn, got several times wounded in this war. Finally he died on 9.7.1918 in a hospital in Chateau Des Verles, France, due to heavy wounds he got a month earlier.

Vinzenz Hutsteiner born in Waldhäusel, Pfarrkirchen I. M., died in hospital after getting several times wounded.

World War II

Anton Hutsteiner from Hanging died in Korkuli, Peterhof, close to St. Petersburg.

Anton Hutsteiner born 1915 in Mistelberg was killed 1943 in Kruglik, Ukraine ?

Franz Xaver Hutstein jun., Ortenburg

Franz Xaver’s son, Franz Xaver Hutstein jun., my uncle whom I never met,  was only 15 years old when the Hitler regime called him to arms on the very last moments of the 3rd Reich.  On 19. March of 1945 he was on the way to Passau to begin his service when American bombers where passing the little city. As soon as the pilots recognized that some Wehrmacht soldiers tried to hide in a small forest there, they started to bombard the area. It was only a small bombardment compared with other regions in Germany, but unfortunately Franz Xaver jun. was hiding in the above mentioned forest (‘Bumper Hölzl’), too, and lost his live. Only 7 weeks later war was over.

Franz Hutsteiner was killed 1944 in Tegernsee due to an accident.

Franz Hutsteiner born 1917 in Sierning, Steyr, died in Maly Morowsk at the Desna river, Ukraine.

Meinrad Hutsteiner born in Breitenberg, was killed in Pomezia, Rome, Italy.

German Cross in Gold

Otto Hutsteiner, lieutenant colonel, was commanding officer of the 1st / Artillery-Regiment 7 / 7th Infantry-Division and later in charge of parts of former 73rd division defending Danzig region 1945.  Captain Hutsteiner was awarded the German Cross in Gold on 01.12.1943.

Otto Hutsteiner, Niederndorf

Otto Hutsteiner from Niederndorf was soldier in the German Wehrmacht from 1941 to 1945 and heavily wounded in Hungary in February 1945. He also was a soldier of the 12th Company, 98 Mountain Infantry Regiment in August 1943 which committed war crimes in Kommeno, Greece. It is not clarified whether he was part in this massacre of civilians.

Willibald Hutstein from Anleng died in Tshudovo, Russia.
